What’s New for the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander?

The 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander arrives with the most significant mechanical change in its current generation’s history. Mitsubishi introduces its first mild-hybrid Outlander for 2026, pairing a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. For buyers who want to go further, the Outlander PHEV also receives a major mid-cycle refresh with a bigger battery, more power, and a longer electric range. Here’s everything that’s new for 2026.

The Biggest News: Every Outlander Is Now Electrified

For the first time ever, every 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander model is now electrified, with the updated 2026 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid debuting alongside the new mild-hybrid model. This is part of Mitsubishi Motors’ commitment to delivering new and updated vehicles under the banner of Momentum 2030, the company’s North American business plan.

New Powertrain: The 2026 Outlander Mild Hybrid

The single biggest change to the standard 2026 Outlander is what’s under the hood. Gone is the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. In its place is a new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system rated at 177 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque.

That extra torque is where drivers will feel the difference most, particularly in everyday low-speed driving and off-the-line acceleration. The mild-hybrid system uses the 48-volt battery to provide an electric torque boost during acceleration, reducing strain on the engine, improving responsiveness, and contributing to better real-world fuel efficiency.

The new powertrain is available with either front-wheel drive or Mitsubishi’s motorsport-inspired Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system.

New & Updated Trim Levels

The 2026 Outlander lineup expands with several new configurations. The LE trim is brand new for 2026, giving buyers a meaningful mid-step between the entry-level ES and the more loaded SE. The RALLIART trim also returns, bringing sportier styling and tuning for driving enthusiasts who want more personality from their three-row SUV.

2026 Outlander PHEV: Major Mid-Cycle Refresh

The plug-in hybrid Outlander gets an even more significant update for 2026. A new 22.7 kWh battery delivers 45 miles of all-electric rang and 73 MPGe. That’s a 15% capacity increase over the outgoing model. Total system output rises to 297 horsepower, supported by a 60% increase in power output from improved thermal management.

That’s a jump from the 2025 model’s 38 miles of electric range and 248 horsepower. These improvements put the Outlander PHEV in direct competition with the Toyota RAV4 Prime.

2026 Outlander PHEV Charging Times:

  • Level 1 (120V household outlet): Approximately 16.5 hours from fully depleted
  • Level 2 (240V outlet, J1772): Approximately 6.5 hours
  • DC fast charging (CHAdeMO): 80% charge in approximately 29 minutes

Refreshed Interior Across Both Models

The 2026 Outlander carries over the extensive mid-cycle interior update from the 2025 model, with several additional improvements that make the cabin feel more refined and premium. Key interior updates include:

  • Revised seating surfaces with available cooled front seats on select trims
  • Redesigned center console with a 45% larger armrest storage area and repositioned cupholders
  • Reshaped wireless phone charging pad for easier device placement
  • Added sound deadening that reduces road noise by 0.5 dB and improves overall sound isolation by nearly 6 dB compared to older versions
  • A 12.3-inch Digital Driver Display and standard 12.3-inch center touchscreen with revised graphics
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard
  • Available 8- or 12-speaker Yamaha audio system depending on trim
  • Available heated and ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats
  • Semi-aniline leather upholstery and front seat massage function on the new Black Edition

Updated Exterior on the PHEV

While the standard 2026 Outlander carries over its exterior styling from 2025, the PHEV gets a noticeable visual refresh:

  • Restyled hood, front grille, and front and rear bumpers
  • All lighting is now LED, including new smoke-finish taillights
  • New 18-inch and 20-inch wheel designs
  • Return of the NOIR Black Edition with enhanced design cues

Mitsubishi’s Legendary Warranty

No matter which 2026 Outlander you choose, Mitsubishi’s industry-leading warranty coverage comes standard. The Mitsubishi Outlander has the distinction of having the lowest starting price of any three-row SUV in America, and it backs that value with:

  • 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain warranty
